Homework:

1. Create the final version of your draft, and print the hard copy before class starts. 

2. Also bring an e-copy of your letter so that you can post it in a Moodle forum. I will show the class how to do this on Monday.

Welcome

Getting to know the course:

I will hand out the course information sheet and calendar. Copies are also available in the Moodle version of this course.

A. On paper, write the answers to these questions about the yellow handout:
 
1. Copy down my name. (You may call me Mrs. Loden, Ms. Loden, or Ms. Kate. Not a professor.
2.  Read the "Course Objectives" section at the top. Summarize the four goals of this class.
3.  Which goal in #2 do you think is the most important for you to practice this quarter?
4.  How much is the Formal Report worth to your grade?
5.  What's one way to fail this class?
6.  Calendar: What's due on Nov. 20?
7. How many days a week will this class meet?
8. Thought question ( you may consult your phone): what's the difference between a professional and an amateur?

Homework:
 
1. Get textbook for course.
2. Read pages 4-8.
3. After you do the reading, on the card I give you today, write down your name and three different types of people/audience (p. 8) you will be communicating with in your future job. (You can classify them by their job description or role.) This is your ticket to class tomorrow.
